STEM classes in Adelaide that make learning enjoyable
Children are often interested in technology long before they understand everything that sits behind it. They might love Lego, computer games, robots or making things, or simply be curious about how technology works.
Bits and Bots Learning gives children and teenagers practical ways to build their skills in STEM, coding, robotics, Digital Technologies and Maths.
Our STEM classes are hands-on. Children learn by designing, building, coding, testing and creating, with projects that develop as their skills and independence grow.
Children aged 6–14 can join our Junior Bots or Pixel Pioneers term programs at our Panorama studio, with after-school and Saturday classes available. For students in Years 8–12, we also provide individual Maths and Digital Technologies tuition.
STEM learning for different interests and experience
Children arrive at Bits and Bots with different interests, confidence levels and previous experience. Some are complete beginners. Others already love coding, robotics or Digital Technologies and want opportunities to explore further.
Children who love building and making
For children drawn to Lego, robotics and practical activities, our classes provide plenty of opportunities to build, program, test and improve their creations.
Creative kids who like designing
Game development, 3D design and other projects combine technology with creativity. Students can create game characters, design objects and make choices about how their projects look and work.
Children who want to learn coding
Students can begin with accessible block-based coding and gradually encounter more advanced concepts as their skills develop. Over time, this can progress towards text-based languages including Python and JavaScript.
Beginners who want to explore STEM
Previous coding or robotics experience is not necessary to start. Projects have entry points for newer students, with additional challenges available as skills and confidence develop.
Children ready for greater challenge
Small group classes make it easier for us to provide more challenging tasks and support students who want to take an idea further. Children can also experiment independently after completing the core activity.

Pixel Pioneers | Ages 9–14
Pixel Pioneers takes these skills further through more complex coding, robotics, electronics and design challenges. Students increasingly plan their solutions, solve problems independently and make more of their own design and coding decisions.
Learning areas
Coding for Kids | Ages 6–14
Children can develop their coding skills through games, robotics and other projects, progressing from graphical block-based coding towards more complex concepts and, as their skills develop, text-based programming including Python and JavaScript.
Robotics for Kids | Ages 6–14
Students build and program robots using systems including Edison, Lego Spike Essential and Lego Spike Prime. Activities become progressively more complex as children develop their coding, engineering and problem-solving skills.
Secondary school tuition
Maths Tuition | Years 8–12
Maths tuition supports secondary students with understanding concepts, developing foundational skills and building confidence. For SACE students, tuition follows the SACE curriculum closely.
Digital Technologies Tuition | Years 8–12
One-to-one Digital Technologies tuition can include coding in Python, HTML and JavaScript, based on the individual student's learning needs and experience.

What children can expect in a STEM class
Each class has a planned task focused on a particular technology, platform or skill. We begin by explaining what students will be working on and showing examples so they can see what they are aiming to create.
From there, students get hands-on.
Instructions and visual guidance help children work through the key stages. I move around the class, checking understanding, answering questions and helping individual students when they need support. Students may work individually or in pairs depending on the activity.
Once the core task is complete, there is room for extension and experimentation. A child might modify a design, add a feature to a game, improve a robot or apply what they have learnt to an idea of their own.
Content changes from term to term, while continuing to build on previously developed skills.
More than coding and robotics classes
Our STEM activities for kids give them opportunities to explore those interests across a much broader mix of technologies. A lesson might involve creating a game, programming a robot, designing an object for 3D printing or building an electronics circuit.
The programs expand upon Digital Technologies learning at school by giving students more hands-on experience and exposure to a wider range of technologies. The programs also build on areas of the Australian Curriculum for Digital Technologies, giving children more opportunities to design, create, test ideas, solve problems and work with different technologies.
Try a class before enrolling for the term
Families interested in Junior Bots or Pixel Pioneers can begin with a free Come and Try class. Children take part in two taster activities, typically starting with 3D CAD and printing before trying a coding activity such as Edison robotics or programming a Micro.
The session gives your child a chance to experience how the classes work and gives us an opportunity to help you identify the most suitable program before enrolling for the term.

What parents say about Bits and Bots Learning
Parents have shared their experiences of Bits and Bots Learning through our 5-star Google reviews.

Our son (7 years old with ASD) absolutely LOVES his weekly Bits n Bots learning sessions. David is fantastic with the children and creates engaging but challenging design and coding tasks for them often using Lego automation, but also manually creating circuits and using unexpected items (e.g., lemons) to teach fundamental physics principles. Absolutely 100% recommend!
